Interview with Peter Chung

Peter Chung is the author of AWS FinOps Simplified, we got the chance to sit down and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.

Q: What are your specialist tech areas?

Peter: AWS, FinOps, Python

Q: How did you become an author for Packt?

Peter: After reading many books published by Packt, I was inspired to contribute to the thought leadership demonstrated by various Packt authors. I was and am passionate about helping customers optimize their cloud spend. Given my experience in that domain and a passion for sharing my knowledge, I took the chance of offering my idea to Packt and was fortunate to have been accepted!

Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?

Peter: Most of the ideas from the book come from direct experience working first-hand with AWS customers. I also frequently reference publicly available content such as AWS documentation, blogs, and videos.

Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?

Peter: The main challenge was committing time to write. I blocked out time on my calendar to devoting writing a chapter or sub-section.

Q: What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?

Peter: Cloud won’t stop growing. Most companies are convinced that if they are not on cloud, they are at a serious disadvantage to their competitors. As cloud adoption increased so will efforts to optimize on costs.

Q. Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?

Peter: This book provides fictional examples to help solidify the cost optimization concepts into practical application.

Q: What are the key takeaways you want readers to come away with from the book?

Peter: Cost optimization is not a one-time thing, but a cultural practice that requires the attention and dedication of the broader enterprise.

Q. Do you have a blog that readers can follow?

Peter: I do not. I contribute to the official AWS blog as an AWS employee.

Q. How would you describe your author’s journey with Packt? Would you recommend Packt to aspiring authors?

Peter: Yes! Packt is super helpful and walks through the entire process with you step-by-step.

Q. Do you belong to any tech community groups?

Peter: No
