Albert Quiroga is the author of Serverless ETL and Analytics with AWS Glue, we got the chance to sit down with him and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.
Q: What is/are your specialist tech area(s)?
Albert: Big Data Architecture
Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?
Albert: I was engaged by my co-authors. My motivation was to share my knowledge and be a published author in the tech space.
Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?
Albert: My research came from my previous knowledge and my work experience. Before beginning the book, I had 4 years work experience in the matter.
Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?
Albert: I never wrote a book before, so I had to train myself on writing techniques. I overcame that with the help of my co-authors and the great Packt reviewers 🙂
Q: What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?
Albert: I believe AWS Glue will become the leading ETL platform in the world in the coming years.
Q: Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?
Albert: There’s no other book like this in the market right now. We are the first to cover AWS Glue.
Q: What are the key takeaways you want readers to come away with from the book?
Albert: Anyone who reads and understands the book should be able to architect and design data lakes using AWS Glue.
Q. What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?
Albert: Practice makes perfect. Reading and watching videos is good, but there’s no better way to learn than getting your hands dirty by trying to build things.

Albert: The AWS Public Documentation is probably the best resource for that.
Q. How would you describe your author journey with Packt? Would you recommend Packt to aspiring authors?
Albert: Yes, I would recommend Packt. Their pipeline and attention to detail is great, specially for someone who is writing a book for the first time.
Q. Do you belong to any tech community groups?
Albert: No.
Q. What are your favorite tech journals? How do you keep yourself up to date on tech?
Albert: I read personal blogs and news on the tech space.
Q. How did you organize, plan, and prioritize your work and write the book?
Albert: Nothing special, I just organize my day and try to meet any deadlines far ahead
Q. What is that one writing tip that you found most crucial and would like to share with aspiring authors?
Albert: Always assume your readers don’t know anything, because it might be the case. The more you can simplify your explanations, the better.
