Marek Chmel on his new book “SQL Server 2019 Administrator’s Guide”

Marek Chmel is the author of the books SQL Server 2019 Administrator’s Guide, Hands-On Data Science with SQL Server 2017 and SQL Server 2017 Administrator’s Guide. We got the chance to sit down with him and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.

Q: How long did it take you to write the book?

Marek: This one took us (Marek and Vladimir) about six months.

Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?

Marek: There was actually not that much research, as I have been working with SQL Server in large enterprise environment for years.

Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?

Marek: There were only minor challenges on the road, which we managed to solve quite quickly either with Vladimir or with the Packt team.

Q: What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?

Marek: Never stop learning new technologies. To use new servers and services use any cloud you have available or local virtualization environment.

Q. How do you keep up-to-date on your tech?

Marek: I have a dedicated time slot every week for learning new technologies to keep me up to date.

Q. How would you describe you author journey with Packt? Would you recommend Packt to aspiring authors?

Marek: I am working with Packt for more than 3 years and it’s a great journey. I have been engaged to work on several books as author and nearly 10 books as a technical reviewer which is also a great and challenging work.
