Ovais Mehboob is the author of Developing Multi-platform apps with VS Code, we got the chance to sit down with him and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.
Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey.
Ovais: I have extensive experience in the software industry and worked in various roles including developer, consultant, and Architect. Other than work, I have been actively blogging and speaking for the past number of years and was also honored to be awarded as Microsoft MVP. I have been writing books for Packt since 2016 and released various titles on .NET Core, JavaScript, and enterprise application architecture. This year, Packt approached me to write a book on VS Code focusing on developing a multi-platform application and representing it with a case study.
Q: How long did it take you to write the book?
Ovais: 5 months.
Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?
Ovais: I try to keep myself up-to-date with the latest developments and innovations in the industry, and before writing, I try to incorporate as much as I can to ensure that the content is up-to-date and reflects the current market trends.
Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?
Ovais: The book is focused on open source technologies, VS Code, and Azure. Having worked on these areas for a considerable amount of time, I didn’t feel much of a challenge writing about them. Nonetheless, the challenge was more on covering all of them within a single title.
Q: What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?
Ovais: The significance of rapid changes in technology requires us to upgrade our skill set and keep learning new things. Try to spend a few hours every week working on upcoming technologies, latest trends in the software industry, and improve your skillset by spending time and doing practical hands-on.
