Matteo Collina is the author of Accelerating Server-Side Development with Fastify we got the chance to sit down with him and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.
Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?
Matteo: I co-created Fastify in 2016, and it needed a book by popular demand. This is the book.
Q: What is the name of your book?
Matteo: Accelerating Server-Side Development with Fastify: A comprehensive guide to API development for building a scalable backend for your web apps
Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?
Matteo: I created the framework, it took quite a few years to get it right!

Matteo: I want them to learn about Fastify from the maintainers.

Q. Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?
Matteo: Three authors wrote this book and the biggest challenge was to keep everybody aligned.
Q. How would you describe your author journey with Packt? Would you recommend Packt to aspiring authors?
Matteo: While working with Microsoft Word might be a bit problematic at times when developing technical content, Packt can provide a good framework for their authors.
Q. Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?
Matteo: There is no other book on Fastify that I’m aware of. This book will provide you with everything you need to get started with Fastify.
Q. What is/are your specialist tech area(s)?
Matteo: Node.js, JavaScript
Q. What advice would you give to readers jumping into this technology? Do you have any top tips?
Matteo: Go for it! It’s easy, start now!
Q. What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?
Matteo: Fastify is growing steadily in the Node.js ecosystem. More and more people use it every day!
Q. How did you organize, plan, and prioritize your work and write the book?
Matteo: I followed the deadlines that I set with the rest of the time and kept them in the loop when things did not work as planned. What’s hard to predict is the significant amount of time needed to address the feedback from the editors.
