Héctor Uriel Pérez Rojas is the author of Hands-On Visual Studio 2022, we got the chance to sit down and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.
Q: What are your specialist tech areas?
Hector: Software Development
Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?
Hector: I became a Packt author, thanks to the invitation of my friend Miguel Teheran. As soon as he told me about the project, I didn’t hesitate for a second to accept, since I had always wanted to write a book, and what better way to do it with a specialized publishing house like Packt. Writing the book was a wonderful experience, full of learning and great satisfaction to see the book published.
Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?
Hector: I did a research on official documentation, interviews and videos that talked about the most relevant issues. The advantage I had before starting to write the book is that I was already using the tool constantly, so I only had to spend a few hours researching the latest Visual Studio version.
Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?
Hector: The main challenge was to adapt to the styles and forms of writing, although with the feedback from the team, you get used to it.
Q: What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?
Hector: Visual Studio is a tool that has been on the market for many years, surprising us with each new edition that is released, so I do not doubt that new AI-based tools will be integrated to allow better productivity for development teams.
Q: Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?
Hector: It is one of the first books that talks about the new features of Visual Studio. In the same way, it touches on topics for developers who are getting started with Visual Studio, as well as topics for more advanced ones.
Q: What are the key takeaways you want readers to come away with from the book?

Q. What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?
Hector: Be in constant training, learn from others and use modern tools like GitHub Copilot to learn how to do things differently.

Hector: Microsoft’s official documentation is the best starting point for learning about tools and technologies such as Visual Studio ’22.
Q. How would you describe your author’s journey with Packt? Would you recommend Packt to aspiring authors?
Hector: The road was hard but with a team behind always giving the best ideas and corrections to conclude the project in time and form. Of course I would recommend Packt Publishing for those who want to write their first book.
Q. Do you belong to any tech community groups?
Hector: I am a Microsoft MVP, and I have my own community called El Camino Dev Comunidad, where I do activities on technology outreach.
Q. What are your favorite tech journals? How do you keep yourself up to date on tech?
Hector: Tengo múltiples fuentes de información, tales como revistas especializadas en software como DZone, Visual Studio Magazine, CampusMVP, blogs y canales de autores reconocidos.
Q. How did you organize, plan, and prioritize your work and write the book?
Hector: To stay on schedule, I made at least one hour of progress on the book project every day, after lunchtime.
Q. What is the one writing tip that you found most crucial and would like to share with aspiring authors?
Hector: The best tip is to organize the content and agenda for writing the book. I recommend having a folder for each chapter, and placing both the revision history and the images. As for the agenda, try to write at least one hour a day the content, so that the last days before delivery you can focus on reviewing details.
