Fang Jin is the author of Designing React Hooks the Right Way we got the chance to sit down with him and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.
Q: What is/are your specialist tech area(s)?
Fang : Front-end, React
Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?
Fang : Have been Packt customer from the very beginning. And one day just curious how to write one in the author’s forum.
Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?
Fang : About a year, more like after I have collected half of the material of the book. However, the book writing is still a surprise in terms of the direction.
Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?
Fang : The challenges is more about working with editors, since I have zero experience before, so need to learn from ground zero how to be a writer.
Q: Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?
Fang : I’m trying to see if we can have book written for serious coder for introduction topic. It’s a bit ambitious, however I believe the book tried its best to meet the goal in the middle.
Q. What are the key takeaways you want readers to come away from the book with?
Fang : The hook is all you need to establish state within React
Q. What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?
Fang : Practice, practice and find new opportunities to practice

Q. How would you describe your author journey with Packt? Would you recommend Packt to aspiring authors?
Fang : Yes, everyone is professional. Yes, I would recommend anyone to Packt especially if you haven’t written anything before 🙂
Q. What are your favorite tech journals? How do you keep yourself up to date on tech?
Fang : Reading documentation, and then practice on projects.
Q. How did you organize, plan, and prioritize your work and write the book?
Fang : I quitted my job this time to write it, but next time I’ll try to plan it differently.
Q. What is that one writing tip that you found most crucial and would like to share with aspiring authors?
Fang : Don’t take too serious, the first draft only shows the intention, but could be far from the production version. Keep refining the material, it’s more like writing code.
