Devlin Basilann Duldulao is the author of ASP.NET Core and Vue.js, we got the chance to sit down with him and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.

Q: What is/are your specialist tech area(s)?

Devlin: Fullstack Web and Mobile

Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?

Devlin: Somebody from Packt contacted me before to become an author but I was too busy before. Then pandemic came, I have extra time during the weekends that I can use that’s why I decided to give it a try.

Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?

Devlin: I did research some terminologies in the technologies I used in the book for verifications and clarifications.

Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?

Devlin: Yes, time management is the number one factor for me. But we can’t go out while on pandemic, I was able to use the time to complete the book.

Q: What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?

Devlin: DotNet is still in the top list of developers’ choice based on StackOverflow survey while Vuejs is hot due to its low learning curve and performance.

Q: Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?

Devlin: The book fits busy developers who has limited time in learning because the book covers both backend and frontend at the same time.

Q. What are the key takeaways you want readers to come away from the book with?

Devlin: The book will help you write scalable application and maintainable code in the backend and frontend.

Q. What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?

Devlin: Also try reading other books and see the difference between different implementations of authors.

Q. Can you share any blogs, websites and forums to help readers gain a holistic view of the tech they are learning?

Devlin: What I can recommend are facebook pages and twitter accounts of your favorite libraries, frameworks, platforms, tools, etc.

Q. How would you describe your author journey with Packt? Would you recommend Packt to aspiring authors?

Devlin: I like Packt because the Packt team response quickly and has an in-house designers to help authors with their images and diagrams.

Q. Do you belong to any tech community groups?

Devlin: Ah yes, user groups in Manila Philippines and recently I started attending some user groups in Oslo Norway.

Q. What are your favorite tech journals? How do you keep yourself up to date on tech?

Devlin: Tech journals? I don’t have any favorite. What I use are social media pages of the tools I am using because I get updates in my feeds such as latest development, best practices, and etc.

Q. How did you organize, plan, and prioritize your work and write the book?

Devlin: I work in the morning and write in the evening. I also write every morning during weekends.

Q. What is that one writing tip that you found most crucial and would like to share with aspiring authors?

Devlin: Patience in receiving feedback and editing content.
