Interview with David Choi

David Choi is the author of Full-Stack React, TypeScript, and Node, we got the chance to sit down with him and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.

Q: What is/are your specialist tech area(s)?

David: React and Node

Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?

David: I had been considering writing a React related book for a while and Packt had also been searching for an author. So things just worked out.

Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?

David: I didn’t do much research upfront. I’m fairly experienced on the topic, but later I did do some research on AWS as I had not used it before.

Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?

David: I was not prepared for the volume of revisions.

Q: What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?

David: React, Node and GraphQL will remain hot areas for the next few years. After that who knows.

Q: Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?

David: This book really does cover everything you need to code a complete end to end application. In addition it uses modern development practices and popular dependencies like GraphQL and Redux. It even covers deployment to AWS.

Q. What are the key takeaways you want readers to come away from the book with?

David: The benefits of using TypeScript for large app development and benefiting from using a single language across frontend and backend.

Q. What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?

David: Just to code a lot and be ok with things not working. You have to wrestle with the code quite a bit before you “get it”.

Q. Do you have a blog that readers can follow?

David: My Twitter is @jsoneaday. My youtube is David Choi.

Q. Can you share any blogs, websites and forums to help readers gain a holistic view of the tech they are learning?

David: https://jsoneaday.medium.com/

Q. How would you describe your author journey with Packt? Would you recommend Packt to aspiring authors?

David: Yes. The team was quite thorough and professional.

Q. Do you belong to any tech community groups?

David: No
