Interview with Author Vishal Pathak

Vishal Pathak is the author of Serverless ETL and Analytics with AWS Glue, we got the chance to sit down with him and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.

Q: What is/are your specialist tech area(s)?

Vishal: ETL, DW, BigData

Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?

Vishal: I have been helping customers use AWS Glue to meet their business goals. I noticed that there was a vacuum of books on AWS Glue so when Packt reached out to me to write the book, I was very happy. However, I didn’t have the bandwidth to do it all on my own. I assembled a team of very talented co-authors to help me with the task.

Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?

Vishal: I shared my vision for the book with all the co-authors. We then huddled and discussed the nitty gritty of the content. We created an outline that we thought will deliver value to the readers.

Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?

Vishal: Finding time to create quality content over and above the day job is always challenging. We had internal discussion channels that helped us organize better. I think the key aspects of successfully writing the book are to know the goals, control the variables and deal with ambiguity.

Q: What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?

Vishal: Both Spark and Glue are going to be the backbone of ETL going forward. Serverless Spark is a great concept that empowers customers to achieve their business goals faster without having to worry about the underlying infrastructure.

Q. What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?

Vishal: Never stop learning.

Q. Can you share any blogs, websites, and forums to help readers gain a holistic view of the tech they are learning?

Vishal: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/big-data/

Q. Would you like to share your social handles? If so, please share.e your work and write the book?

Vishal: https://www.linkedin.com/in/vishalpathak-bi-bigdata/
