Marcelo Leite is the author of Microsoft Certified Azure Data Fundamentals (Exam DP-900) Certification Guide, we got the chance to sit down with him and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.

Q: What is/are your specialist tech area(s)?

Marcelo: Data & Artificial Intelligence

Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?

Marcelo: I had this longtime dream turned to an opportunity with the Packt invitation

Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?

Marcelo: Documentation, trainings around the topic and other references to structure the knowledge and the content

Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?

Marcelo: It’s hard to write the first book, you need to think about the persona that will read the book, what’s a good level of content or it’s too complex, so I think it was the biggest challenge and I overcome it consulting my references and talking with some other Data Specialists.

Q: What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?

Marcelo: I loved Data, and I see as one of the main careers for the future. Good professionals should have at least the fundamental skills on data storage and analytics for all roles.

Q: Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?

Marcelo: The book is not just sample questions for DP-900, it’s a complete guide for the fundamental skills on Data projects. It’ll prepare the readers for the DP-900 exam, but more importantly, the book will prepare the professional for the market.

Q: What are the key takeaways you want readers to come away with from the book?

Marcelo: The data fundamentals knowledge

Q. What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?

Marcelo: Do the practical exercises, not just read the book, but with these practical exercises the learning patch will be easier.

Q. How would you describe your author journey with Packt? Would you recommend Packt to aspiring authors?

Marcelo: Amazing, sure, Packt can support all the writing process, the reviewers are great.

Q. What are your favorite tech journals? How do you keep yourself up to date on tech?

Marcelo: As a Microsoft employee I receive some internal journals very complete and today I don’t have a journal that I’m following. Some years ago, in Brazil I used to read in a daily basis the “Computerworld” and “Canal Digital”

Q. How did you organize, plan, and prioritize your work and write the book?

Marcelo: Working step by step, 1 hour every day, scheduled in my agenda, to keep all the activities on time

Q. What is that one writing tip that you found most crucial and would like to share with aspiring authors?

Marcelo: Writing routine, some days you will be more productive, and some days you wouldn’t, but you cannot wait for very productive days to write. you should create a writing routine, daily, and your book will progress well.
