Interview with A B Vijay Kumar.

Q: What is/are your specialist tech area(s)?

A B Vijay: Cloud Native Technologies, IOT, Microservices, Architecture, AIOps, DevSecOps, Kubernetes, iOS, Mobile application development.

Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?

A B Vijay: Packt reached out to me to write a book on GraalVM, based on the blog posts I did in DZone.

Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?

A B Vijay: I went through various videos, documents, manuals about GraalVM. I also downloaded and went through the GraalVM source code (OpenSource) to understand how it works internally.

Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?

A B Vijay: Yes, there were very limited documentation on details on inner working of GraalVM. I had to go through the source code, and reach out to the founders of GraalVM to gain more inner insights.

Q: What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?

A B Vijay: This will transform the way we do Java Microservices on Cloud, as it provides the most optimized runtime.

Q: Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?

A B Vijay: There are no books (at the time of releasing this book) on GraalVM, that go into detailed architecture and hands-on coding.

Q: What are the key takeaways you want readers to come away from the book with?

A B Vijay: Readers will gain detailed understanding of the inner workings of GraalVM, and how to build optimum code to run on Cloud.

Q: What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?

A B Vijay: The book provides a lot of simple hands-on examples. Readers should really use that to understand the inner workings of GraalVM and then use that knowledge to build more complex applications.

Q: Do you have a blog that readers can follow?

A B Vijay: Yes, https://abvijaykumar.medium.com/

Q. What is that one writing tip that you found most crucial and would like to share with aspiring authors?

A B Vijay: Outlining the topics, and organizing the thoughts is important. I first create a mind map of how I want to organize and use that mind map to fill the contents of the book. I always try to write it the content the way I would love to it. I think like a reader.

Q. How would you describe your author journey with Packt? Would you recommend Packt to aspiring authors?

A B Vijay: Researching and writing a book on a topic that is emerging, was really a great experience. I personally learnt a lot and enjoyed it.

Q. What are your favorite tech journals? How do you keep yourself up to date on tech?

A B Vijay: I read infoq.com, Dzone.com, and follow a lot of great channels on YouTube to keep up-to speed on the technology.

Q. How did you organize, plan, and prioritize your work and write the book?

A B Vijay: I normally spend time early mornings and weekends on writing the book, as I need complete focus while writing it.
