Hemang Doshi is a Chartered Accountant and a globally recognized Author for his book on CISA. We produce herewith summary of discussion held with Hemang.
Q: What made you think about entering into the field of System Audit?
Hemang: I strongly believe immense scope lies in the field of IT audit and controls. Reason is simple, most of the organizations will be system driven where all the processing and controls will be integrated through computers. There will be minimum manual intervention. In such scenario, our traditional audit approach may not be helpful. In system driven scenario, we need to know about system integration, system processing, data security, encryption techniques, network security, system availability, and backup processing.
As a CISA holder you will have a edge over traditional auditors. For Audit /Control team, CISA qualification will be must down the line may be 2 to 3 years.
Q: What motivated you to author the CISA book?
Hemang: I did my CISA certification in 2014. At that time, I struggled a lot due to unavailability of books in simple English without technical jargons. CISA certification is basically designed for IT auditors having experience of more than 5 years. Hence, most of the authors assumed their audience have a particular skill set and did not bother to cover non-technical aspirants. I made my own notes which helped me as well as some of the friends to pass the exam. Gradually, notes turned into full fledge book and video course.
Q: What is the main reason for the popularity of your CISA book and video course?
Hemang: My non-technical background. Perhaps, I am the only author for CISA who is a Chartered Accountant and not a Computer Engineer. Today my book and video course are available in 120 countries (with subtitles in 26 languages), because I hardly used any technical jargons in my course. My book and video course are doing well specifically in non-English speaking countries and this is because my editorial team has used simple English.
I think two major factor that contributed to the success of my course is absence of technicality and simplicity of the language.
Q. How many other books have you authored?

Q. What is your advice to new Chartered Accountants?
Hemang: From my experience of 15 years in corporate world, I would like to share following advices:
(1) Do not try to learn all trades. Take time and decide what you like to do and do only that. It may be taxation or IT audit or forensic or risk management or ISO certification or IFC or M & A or Investment banking or SAP consultant or BCM/DRP or legal consultant.
(2) Be your own master. Your counterpart in service or job may earn more than you in initial year. But things will change drastically within 5 years.
(3) Always update your skill.
(4) Share your knowledge. Let it be free. Eventually money will start pouring in.
(5) Never chase money. Chase knowledge and eventually money and success will start chasing you.
(6) Work quietly and let your success speak.
All the best!
