Trista is the one of the authors of A Definitive Guide to Apache ShardingSphere. We got the chance to sit down with her and find out more about her experience of writing with Packt.
Q. What is/are your specialist tech area(s)?
Trista: Distributed database development; Database AI management platform development
Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?
Trista: I received the invitation from Packt. ShardingSphere is a good project and has a pretty active community. But many people want to have a complete document or book to know the design aesthetics and how to use it efficiently. So I really hope to have a book to help users know it and use it correctly.
Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?
Trista: If only ShardingSphere, as I am a PMC for this project, there isn’t too much research for me. On the other side, I performed a lot of research into the distributed database industry since I want the book to be as authoritative as possible. My practice is to conduct corresponding research chapter by chapter. For example, if I want to discuss database evolution, I must first explain the many types of databases in this business and analyze what their value is, why people prefer them, and so on.
Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?
Trista: Because English is not my first language, I will have problems with English expression; Sorry to burden editors! But, as a result of writing this book, my English has improved. 😉
Q. What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?
Trista: Writing the book has given me a better understanding of the various databases in the distributed database market and why people rely on them. I believe that new SQL and database mesh on cloud will have a promising future.
Q: Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?
Trista: Sorry, but that’s the first book specializing in ShardingSphere.
Q: What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?
Trista: First, to learn its mechanism and then setup and use it in practice.
Q. What are the key takeaways you want readers to come away from the book with?
Trista: I hope readers could know more about the architecture aesthetics, the idea of Database plus and the best way to use this project for users’ various scenarios.
