Sebastien Donadio is the author of Developing High Frequency Trading Systems, we got the chance to sit down and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.

Sebastien: High frequency trading
Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?
Sebastien: It takes years to learn advanced knowledge. Writing is a way to transfer this knowledge to everyone.
Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?
Sebastien: High frequency trading is a cross-domain knowledge. It is an aggregation of computer engineering, trading, hardware. Researching to get the fastest trading systems took me no less than 10 years.
Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?
Sebastien: The challenge to transfer complex knowledge is to simplify the knowledge for everyone to understand.
Q: What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?
Sebastien: In this book, we teach the paradigm of how to build a high-frequency trading system. These technological rules will be applicable for many years to come.
Q: Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?
Sebastien: This book explains the technology in-depth while competitors focus too much on the business part of high frequency trading.
Q: What are the key takeaways you want readers to come away with from the book?
Sebastien: They will be able to build a HFT system.
Q. What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?
Sebastien: They need to try and fail. They will understand why they fail, they will improve and they will get there.

Q. Can you share any blogs, websites and forums to help readers gain a holistic view of the tech they are learning?
Q. How would you describe your author’s journey with Packt? Would you recommend Packt to aspiring authors?
Sebastien: Packt is definitely a good publisher to start with. You will submit your outline. The outline will be reviewed. Packt will suggest some changes and will enrich the outline. Then, you will be assigned to a team. You will agree with the deadlines for each chapter of the book. You will iterate with the publisher then after a few months, the content will be ready for release. Meanwhile, Packt will do the marketing part to optimize your change of selling your book.

Q. What are your favorite tech journals? How do you keep yourself up to date on tech?
Q. How did you organize, plan, and prioritize your work and write the book?
Sebastien: Working on the book when you fly, commute or during some nights is a good way to write fast.
Q. What is the one writing tip that you found most crucial and would like to share with aspiring authors?
Sebastien: Stay committed to the book.
