Interview with Richard Hooper

Richard Hooper is the author of Azure Containers Explained, we got the chance to sit down with him and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.

Q: What is/are your specialist tech area(s)?

Richard: Azure Kubernetes Service.

Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?

Richard: Someone reached out to me via LinkedIn asking if I would like to write a book. I said yes I would love to. The rest is history.

Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?

Richard: As I work with the technology on a daily basis No research was needed before writing the book. A little was needed during the writing to ensure I had the correct information.

Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?

Richard: No challenges during the writing process.

Q: What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?

Richard: You will need to read the book to find out.

Q. Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?

Richard: This book was written by two Microsoft MVP’s who use the technology daily to ensure customer success.

Q. What are the key takeaways you want readers to come away from the book with?

Richard: To know when to use which technology and to be ok with having to switch.

Q. What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?

Richard: Never stop learning. Tech changes so fast, as soon as you stop learning you have a lot of catching up to do.

Q. How would you describe your author journey with Packt? Would you recommend Packt to aspiring authors?

Richard: The author journey was super simple. The Packt team are there to help and help they do! If you are new to writing a book Packt is the perfect place to start.

Q. What are your favorite tech journals? How do you keep yourself up to date on tech?

Richard: Twitter is the best place to keep up to date on tech.

Q. How did you organize, plan, and prioritize your work and write the book?

Richard : The support of my wife helped a lot here. Some late evenings and weekends were needed.

Q. What is the one writing tip that you found most crucial and would like to share with aspiring authors?

Richard: Don’t be too worried about getting it perfect first time. The Packt team will help you with that and by the end of the book you will wonder what all the worry was about.
