Interview with Jürgen Gutsch

Jurgen Gutsch is the author of Customizing ASP.NET Core 5.0, we got the chance to sit down with him and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.

Q: What is/are your specialist tech area(s)?

Jurgen: .NET, .NET Core, ASP.NET, ASP.NET Core, C#, Agile, DevOps, Software Architecture

Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?

Jurgen: Was a technical reviewer before. And just asked Packt about publishing a book that I planned to publish by myself initially

Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?

Jurgen: Each chapter was written as a blog post initially and most topics came up during daily business while working on real world projects. So it is hard to estimate the actual effort for research.

Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?

Jurgen: Updating the contents while Microsoft is publishing new versions was the hardest challenge

Q: What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?

Jurgen: This technology now lives since almost 20 years, evolves a lot and will exist and evolve for at least more 20 years.

Q: Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?

Jurgen: Currently there is no book like this on the market

Q. What are the key takeaways you want readers to come away from the book with?

Jurgen: Guidance would be the key takeaway from this book. Its a guide to help you understand what you are facing, things to be aware of and how this version of SharePoint and the Cloud all come together.

Q. What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?

Jurgen: See it like a cook book or a toy box for developers

Q. Can you share any blogs, websites and forums to help readers gain a holistic view of the tech they are learning?

Jurgen: This is always a good start: And it leads to more detailed docs and to community content

Q. How would you describe your author journey with Packt? Would you recommend Packt to aspiring authors?

Jurgen: I work with Packt more or less by accident. But a positive one. Started as a tech reviewer, while already writing in blogs and for tech magazines. I really like it to work work with Packt. So: Yes I would recommend Packt to other possible authors.

Q. Do you belong to any tech community groups?

Jurgen: I count myself as a member of the .NET developer community. I’m a Microsoft MVP and lead a .NET community in Basel (CH)

Q. What are your favorite tech journals? How do you keep yourself up to date on tech?

Jurgen: I keep myself up to date with blogs, videos and live streams.

Q. How did you organize, plan, and prioritize your work and write the book?

Jurgen: Actually I didn’t really plan that for the first book, but I definitely need to for the next one

Q. What is that one writing tip that you found most crucial and would like to share with aspiring authors?

Jurgen: I think I’m not yet qualified to share some tips to other authors
