Interview with Joe Anich

Joe Anich is the author of Microsoft Defender for Endpoint in Depth we got the chance to sit down with him and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.

Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?

Joe: My motivation for writing this book was that I wanted to share what I had learned, and provide a longer format explanation of all things Defender for Endpoint.

Q: What is the name of your book?

Joe: Microsoft Defender for Endpoint In Depth.

Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?

Joe: I have done many years of research.

Q: What key takeaways do you want readers to come away with from the book?

Joe: Confidence in deployment and configuration, as well as understanding how the components work.

Q: Can you share any blogs, websites and forums to help readers gain a holistic view of the tech they are learning?

Joe: Not in particular.

Q. Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?

Joe: Yes, time and patience was the major challenges for me during the writing process.

Q. How would you describe your author journey with Packt? Would you recommend Packt to aspiring authors?

Joe: Yes, they making writing easy, and they’re patient and understanding.

Q. Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?

Joe: There isn’t another Defender for Endpoint book that goes into the product like this.

Q. What is/are your specialist tech area(s)?

Joe: Endpoint Security, Infrastructure recovery, IR Team lead.

Q. What advice would you give to readers jumping into this technology? Do you have any top tips?

Joe: Read from cover to cover, go and ramp in areas that make less sense. Take your time, it’s not a race.

Q. What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?

Joe: They’ll be around for many more decades in some capacity.

Q. How did you organize, plan, and prioritize your work and write the book?

Joe: Write with whatever hours were left in the day, when kids were sleeping.

Q. What are your favorite tech journals? How do you keep yourself up to date on tech?

Joe: None.

Q: What is that one writing tip that you found most crucial and would like to share with aspiring authors?

Joe: If you have writers block, think more high-level about the book instead of writing, if it’s not there it’s not there.
