Dheeraj Panyam is the author of The Definitive Guide to Modernizing Applications on Google Cloud we got the chance to sit down with him and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.
Q: What is/are your specialist tech area(s)?
Dheeraj: DevOps, Designing Solutions on Google Cloud Platform, Networking, Data Analytics/ML
Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?
Dheeraj: It all started as I was offered a role as a technical reviewer for PACKT. This turned out to be an offer to coauthor. Journey has been very good so far. My motivation in writing this book is to help community in sharing my knowledge
Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?
Dheeraj: I went through a couple of PACKT books reading through the PACKT documentation / tips on writing the book and also going through the official Google Cloud documentation
Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?
Dheeraj : Yes since this was my 1st time experience faced challenges in writing as per PACKT guidelines and also in finding content. I overcame it by going through instructions and for content i referred official Google Cloud documentation.
Q: What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?
Dheeraj : This book is targeted towards App Modernization on Google cloud and i feel this is a niche area with many enterprises wanting to move to the Cloud to reduce costs, operational management , scalability and other benefits that cloud provides.
Q: Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?
Dheeraj: This book is unique because it showcases how a legacy application can be modernized to be Cloud Native and demonstrates the deployment options to various compute platforms available on Google Cloud
Q. What are the key takeaways you want readers to come away from the book with?
Dheeraj : Learn how to architect legacy applications to be Cloud Native on GCP
Q. What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?
Dheeraj : The more hands on you do the better. Understand the basics.
Q. Do you have a blog that readers can follow?
Dheeraj : No
Q. Can you share any blogs, websites and forums to help readers gain a holistic view of the tech they are learning?
Q. How would you describe your author journey with Packt? Would you recommend Packt to aspiring authors?
Dheeraj : I thoroughly enjoyed my journey and yes i would recommend Packt to aspiring authorsNot

Dheeraj : Yes the Google Cloud Slack community
Q. What are your favorite tech journals? How do you keep yourself up to date on tech?
Dheeraj : I keep myself updated by following the blogs for latest updates
Q. How did you organize, plan, and prioritize your work and write the book?
Dheeraj : I reserved weekends only to focus on writing the book. Besides i prepared an outline of the topics , important references like blogs, you tube videos that helped me provide inputs on the tech side.
