Interview with Mohamed Abdelaziz
Mohamed Abdelaziz is the author of Designing Production-grade and Large-scale IoT Solutions. We got the chance to sit down with him and find out more about his experience of writing with Packt.
Q: What are your specialist tech area(s)?
Mohamed Abdelaziz: IoT, Cloud, App modernization, containerization and architecture and design of large-scale distributed systems
Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?
Mohamed Abdelaziz: I have been approached by “Niranjan Naikwadi” on linked in, and he asked me to author one book in IoT considering my absolute proficiency in the subject. That ask match with one of my dreams to write a book hence I joined and committed to write that book.
Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?
Mohamed Abdelaziz: The challenge for me was in the outline of the book or the topics that I should cover in the book so I spent about 2 months doing research and brain storming to come to right outline/topics for my book. During writing chapters sometimes I do some research on some topics that I selected in the chapter.
Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?
Mohamed Abdelaziz: Yes I did, the language itself and checking grammar mistakes and checking statement are proofreading or not, etc all of this was a challenge during the writing process. I used some online tools like grammarly.com
Q. What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?
Mohamed Abdelaziz: I answered that question in last chapter in the book under section “IoT & future trends”
Q: Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?
Mohamed Abdelaziz: The book is giving E2E view on designing and building large-scale and production-grade IoT solutions, the Author of the book is dealing with such type of projects in daily basis so the book provides a practical IoT design and architecture.
Q. What are the key takeaways you want readers to come away from the book with?
Mohamed Abdelaziz: in the last chapter in the book I gave a summary of quick takeaways of each chapter that I want the reader to come away with from the chapter and the book in general.
Q. What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?
Mohamed Abdelaziz: focus on concepts rather than technologies to be able to design and build any kind of solution no matter which environment or technologies you have been given for delivering such solutions

Q. How would you describe your author journey with Packt? Would you recommend Packt to aspiring authors?
